Recognizing Neighbors Efforts to Improve our Community

The Alliance for a Better District 6 is celebrating 12 years of volunteer community efforts to improve the quality of life for those of us living in San Francisco’s District 6 (Rincon Hill, South Beach, South Park, Mission Bay, Yerba Buena, Mid-Market, Western SoMa, the Tenderloin, and Treasure Island). Please join us on Wednesday, January 19th to thank our neighbors and community institutions who choose to make a difference in our neighborhoods and the community at large.

The awards ceremony happens Wednesday, January 19th at 6PM at 201 Turk Street, Community Room at Jones Street.

The Alliance for a Better District 6 will be holding a prestigious awards celebration by commemorating the lives of former Alliance members and Philanthropists with the creation of the following memorial awards in their honor:

Jim Berk Memorial Award: San Francisco Clean City Coalition for 20 years of cleaning, greening and beautifying San Francisco.

Steve Conley Memorial Award: Jazzie Collins for tireless activism and exceptional leadership.

Brother Kelly James Cullen, OFM Memorial Award: Tenderloin Housing Clinic for 30 years of providing free legal services and offers comprehensive support services to SRO Tenants.

Ruth Kay Debs Memorial Award: Central Market Community Benefit District for 5 years of providing beautification, safety and improvements to the central Market neighborhood.

James Leo Dunn Memorial Award: Michael Nulty for meritorious service and being a continual voice for progressive rights in District 6.

Dahi Donnelly Memorial Award: Rosebowl Florist & Wine Bar for 30 years of community service.

Evelyn Haas Memorial Award: Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) for 30 years of providing safe, affordable housing and support services to low-income people in San Francisco.

Tess Manalo-Ventresca Memorial Award: Christina Olague for her lifetime of leadership and public service to the diverse communities of San Francisco.

Lower Polk Neighbors for 10 years of tree planting, crime fighting, cleanliness and beautification initiatives.

Hank Wilson Memorial Award: Project Open Hand for 25 years of providing daily meals, a Grocery Center, and nutrition programs for those in need.

Citizen of the Year Award: David Elliott Lewis, Ph.D., in recognition of outstanding civic participation.

Community Impact Awards: St. Anthony's Foundation for 60 years of community service; San Francisco Network Ministries for 30 years of providing memorial services for poor and homeless people; Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center for 15 years of health services and education to Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

Safety Awards: Tom Radulovich, Tenderloin Neighborhood Association, for exceptional commitment to safety

Certificate of Excellence: Jim Meko, in recognition of comprehensive urban and neighborhood planning.

Additional Recognitions will be announced at the meeting.

Along with the prestigious award ceremony the Alliance will electing new officers, distributing door prizes to those in attendance, and providing refreshments to those in attendance, and more. This event is open to the public.
