2010 Annual Report Highlights
2010 Annual Report Highlights
In 2010
ABD6 creates a new image: Visit our new website to see some of our community work at:http://Allianceforabetterdistrict6.blogspot.com. At this site you will see links to other ABD6 sponsored blogs and websites that are community partners.
As many of you know, the services at the 101 Hyde postal facility are decreasing. This postal facility serves many Tenderloin residents but patrons cannot buy stamps, deliver packages, or mail letters. ABD6 is working to improve these conditions by advocating for a full service post office.
Community Safety: ABD6 organized a District 6 Safety Platform workshop with the goal of identifying issues and advocating solutions. Our first step was doing exercises to get to know our neighbors and to build a sense of community. We also invited safety officials to give updates, and attended Police Commission and other safety forums. We achieved foot patrols and community policing in District 6 police districts. ABD6 also works with businesses on Good Neighbor policies.
Community Benefit Districts: ABD6 supports their formation and implementation. In January, 2008 Central Market Community Benefits District started, followed by Yerba Buena and Union Square BID expansion. ABD6 sends representatives to Mid-Market Project Area Committee and other planning meetings.
Transportation: Tenderloin-Little
Educational Forums: ABD6 partnered with the SF Elections Department and the League of Women Voters offering ballot measures / elections outreach. Working with community partners provided outreach for the US Census. And we advocated to maintain the lifeline telephone service at its present level, thus avoiding a price hike.
Our Planning & Land Use Committee members have been actively enforcing the conditions of the North of Market Special Use District and regularly invite purposed projects to give presentations.
ABD6 revived the Tenderloin Futures Collaborative's monthly community meetings offering informational exchange to Tenderloin stakeholders.
Other concerns addressed by ABD6 are housing, noise pollution, open space, grocery outlets, and beatification projects, Transbay and Central Subway projects, and
ABD6 is planning a great holiday party at the Swig Bar, regularly mentioned in the press. In recognizing numerous community members for their achievements, we created the District 6 Women of the Year Awards. These and some other achievers will be recognized at the party.
Lastly, we increased our membership in 2010 and we hope to do it again.
